7 first wishes that come to my mind

Thursday, December 25, 2008

1. I wish to get a present from 'Santa Claus'. Although there is no serombong in my apartment,
I wish there would be someone to knock my house and leave a parcel with my name written on it

2. I wish I could fly back to Malaysia and meet everyone that I love. I miss all of them. My parents, my mom always said that she miss me whenever I talked to her, and we both ended up sobbing. My niece and nephew, and one person who gave me hope but now leave me breathless. Please, help me breathe again.

3. I wish I could stay by the seashore, and eye on those half naked or preferably full naked people along the beach.

4. I wish to have a car to travel to my dream places.

5. I wish I could jump from the sky and fell on a huge comfy pillow.

6. I wish to find kangkung goreng belacan in US.

7. I wish to have someone to poke me now and say: 'In your dream...~'

-Muni, thanks for tagging me.

It's such a relief
I'm done with all the final exams
Last paper was MICRB201
-can't wait to know my result for Fall '08-
In MICRB exam, there was a question that made me smile
Same with THEA, it was the last question and it said:
50. Tempeh, an Indonesian/Malaysian food is a product of fermentation of?

I whispered...hey dey, aku melayu la wei...lepas beranak terus mkn tempeh..haha

The question made me miss tempeh and Malaysia too...

i love THEA100

Thursday, December 18, 2008

I did my final exam for THEA100 - Intro to theatre just a couple hours ago. It was a long exam as it consisted 100 questions, covering all the topics we have learned in class and theatres we have read and watched. I enjoyed answering the question because they were some questions from the past 2 exams. There was one unforgettable question and it was the last one:
100. Mark 'A' and enjoy your holidays.
I smiled and simply darkened 'A' on my scantron. Yuhuu

I better go now because I have another exam at 2.30pm which is MICRB201. Wish me luck and bye!

My New York Trip

Tuesday, December 09, 2008

Banyak tempat2 menarik telah kami lawati seperti Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Times Square, National Museum yg ade rangka dinosaur tu, Central Park, Zoo (1st time tgk polar bear yg gabak besar), Chinatown, Little Italy, Soho (mcm2 brand ade kat area ni), naik cruise lalu bwh Brooklyn Bridge, Broadway, NBC Studio, Rockerfeller Center, Ground Zero (bekas runtuhan WTC), Madame Tussauds Wax Museum (patung2 selebriti dunia dan org2 popular) dan lain2. Pendek kata, percutian di NYC sangat menyeronokkan tapi kene pndai control budget, kalau, aku akn pegi lg NYC bile ade peluang sbb I love NYC...

NYC - pre arrival (org yg tidak sabar)

New York!!!

Lagi brape hari je nak gi NYC. Sgt xsabar, it's my dream and i'm gonna make it true. Skrg tgh arrange plan and beli pass dan sbgainye dgn rakan2 ku yg best. So far, blm pegi ak da spend USD200++ for bus tickets and entrance pass to 40 NYC attractions. Xkesahla byk skit sbb worth it. Kene tolak sket duit utk shopping. Agak shit tp xpela i can do shopping lagi bile2 berkemampuan. We are lucky sbb ade budak2 steven yang rela menumpangkan kami bermalam. Thank you guys! sbb menolong kami berjimat.

I'm thinking to buy winter boot, trench coat, jackets, some t-shirts and jeans and a watch and...Hugo XY. Kitorg plan nak shopping time black friday kat Woodbury outlet, sounds crazy sbb mesti rmi giler org time tu tp ape slhnye merasai pengalaman itu kan. Xsabar nak shopping kat 5th Avenue, lots of brands come to my mind now..adoi, crazy. Kebanyakan tmpt yg kitorg plan nak gi kat area Manhattan, so kitorg akan spend byk mase kat situ.

Hrp2 segala plan kitorg berjalan lancar dan xde masalah. Xsabar juge nak snap pic byk2 to tell the whole world...I'm in New York City!!! Hahaha, jakun betol.

This is so GAY

Friday, November 14, 2008

I would like to share one of my favorite songs
I've been listening to this catchy song since it was released
The music is awesome
The lyrics is oohh (unexplainable)
Here you go...'I kissed a girl' by Katy Perry

This was never the way I planned
Not my intention
I got so brave, drink in hand
Lost my discretion
It's not what, I'm used to
Just wanna try you on
I'm curious for you
Caught my attention

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it

No, I don't even know your name
It doesn't matter,
You're my experimental game
Just human nature,
It's not what,
Good girls do
Not how they should behave
My head gets so confused
Hard to obey

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chap stick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it,

Us girls we are so magical
Soft skin, red lips, so kissable
Hard to resist so touchable
Too good to deny it
Ain't no big deal, it's innocent

Laugh is the best medicine

Thursday, November 13, 2008

Lets laugh out loud
Get rid of sorrow and sadness
Just laugh as loud as you can

Laugh and stop cry
Laugh and let the tears dry
Laugh and fill your heart to the core
Laugh and speak love no more
Laugh and think of a clown
Laugh and never let yourself down

Listen to this song
It is a song that almost all American kids learn
This version is so funny

new baby

Thursday, November 13, 2008

Welcome to my life my new baby
I guess I did a crazy thing yesterday
But the craziness worth happiness
I bought a kitten from Animal Kingdom
He's so cute and gorgeous
It was kind of hard to choose
between him and another kitten
But I ended up with this cutey kitty

He has a name..Vogee
He is just a toy but he is my new bestfriend

a change

Tuesday, November 11, 2008

Nothing to write
Just a few words to say
I changed my layout again
Because I don't like the previous layout
And because I love this one

Saturday, November 8, 2008

He made it!

Last tuesday, Nov 4th was a big day for United States as it was the Presidential Election Day, the battle between Barack Obama (Democrat) and John McCain (Republican). Since I am an 'oh please' kind of person about politics, I just did my own stuff during that big day. But, I was surprised by the voices of people who yelled when Obama won the majority of the electoral college and officially elected as the next boss in the White House. He is the first African American President of the United States. Isn't it great. He is the man. Obama is a son of a white American and a black Kenyan. I guess that is why U.S. residents selected him as the next Mr. President. Isn't it fair...he is partly white and partly black. I hope he will make a good presidency.

Lagu ini ditujukan khas kepada mereka yang aku sayang di Malaysia

"Counting Down The Days"

You were right
And I don't wanna be here
If your gonna be there
Was that supposed to happen

I'll hold tight
I'll remember to smile
Though it has been a while
And without you does it matter

I wanna travel through time
See your surprise
Hold you so tight
I'm counting down the days tonight
I just wanna be a million miles away from here
I'm counting down the days

How've you been
It's just the usual here
And days are feeling like years
And every day's without you

Now I cry
Just a little too much
When I think of your touch
And everything about you

I wanna travel through time
See your surprise
Hold you so tight
I'm counting down the days tonight
I just wanna be a million miles away from here
I'm counting down the days

I'm counting down the days
I'm counting down the days

I'm gonna be your surprise
I'm gonna hold you so tight

What positive effects does America's Next Top Model bring to us?

One morning, Meghan (my ESL instructor) told me and my classmates to search a topic that seems to catch our interest. Hmmm...I was thinking what kind of stuff attracts me the most??? SHIT, I didn't even have a single idea at that time. I tried to search an interesting topic regarding fashion world or anything related to it...finally, America's Next Top Model came across my mind. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of ANTM but I did watch some episodes and I love Tyra Bank! Another problem arose, what should I say about ANTM? The participants? Tyra Bank? Nigel Barker? Miss J (euhh)? But, I am not gonna write a, I was thinking why don't I make a research on the impacts of ANTM to society...brilliant! Haha

However, I guess this topic is fresh and it is difficult to find credible articles and sources. But, I won't give up and I would give it a try. For the time being, I would like to focus on the positive effects of ANTM and I have few ideas such as discrimination (everyone has equal opportunity to participate), values (e.g anti-smoking photoshoot), benefits on modeling world, grooming, and some more. If you have any idea, please help me! Be my angel!

They were once seen in they are in front of me!

October 17-18, 2008
They were two awesome days!!! I went to Washington DC to celebrate raya at Malaysia Embassy with other Penn Staters and some Malaysians in the US. It was such a great occasion except those speeches at the beginning of the event. Well nobody would listen when everyone was so excited meeting his/her old friends. Finally, I met lemang and sate this year...hilang kempunan, besides, they also served variety of kuih raya, nasi beriani and rendang. At first, the foods made me felt like home but the chilly breeze blowed the feeling away. WTF. spoil giler but overall, i loved to be there and i enjoyed every moment i spent with my friends.

After the 'finger licking good' session ended, we drove straight away to the historical and memorial places in DC. That was the perfect moment in my life. It was a dream came true. It was fantastic. I got the chance to see
the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial and walk by the Franklin D Roosevelt Memorial Park...everything that I saw in the TV was in front of me on that amazing moment. Unfortunately, I missed the chance to see White House because we didn't have enough time. But nevermind, I am willing to travel more than 4 hrs just to see the next US President walking down the White House's front stairs.

Bisikku pada bulan

Tanpa dia
Malam menemaniku
Sepi memelukku
Bulan jangan biar siang
Biar alam ini kelam
Biar ia sepi...sepertiku

Tika ku rungkai jendela suram, tersingkap kenangan silam. Mindaku dibawa terbang melayang, kembali ke tanah asal, Terbayang wajah insan-insan yang ku sayang

Pesan kalian menerjah gegendang telingaku;
abang, jangan tinggal solat, banyakkan berdoa, jaga diri elok-elok...
Satu persatu madah mereka ku hayati, ku renungi, ku genggami

Namun, hatiku kerap kali menangis, pabila satu pesanan mereka, singgah di benakku;

Tapi...kirimkan aku kesepian bulan, menjadi temanku sepanjang jalan...

Love at the first sight...FALL

In the middle of October...
Leaves have started to turn yellow, brown, and even red. Fall is such a pretty season though the temperature drops to as low as 0 degree celcius (so far). I am so impressed and amazed by its beauty. I swear, I'll miss Fall. I am so grateful to be given the opportunity to see the falling yellow leaves and feel the chilly fall breeze. I guess pictures will best tell you how much I love Fall. I love you, Fall...

Fall for you

The best thing about tonight's that we're not fighting
Could it be that we have been this way before?
I know you don't think that I am trying
I know you're wearing thin down to the core

But hold your breath
Because tonight will be the night
That I will fall for you over again
Don't make me change my mind

Or I won't live to see another day
I swear it's true
Because a girl like you's impossible to find
You're impossible to find

This is not what I intended
I always swore to you I'd never fall apart
You always thought that I was stronger
I may have failed, but I have loved you from the start

Oh, but hold your breath
Because tonight will be the night
That I will fall for you over again
Don't make me change my mind

Or I won't live to see another day
I swear it's true
Because a girl like you's impossible to find
It's impossible

So breathe in so deep
Breathe me in, I'm yours to keep
And hold on to your words 'cause talk is cheap
And remember me tonight when you're asleep

Because tonight will be the night
That I will fall for you over again
Don't make me change my mind

Or I won't live to see another day
I swear it's true
Because a girl like you's impossible to find

Tonight will be the night
That I will fall for you over again
Don't make me change my mind

Or I won't live to see another day
I swear it's true
Because a girl like you's impossible to find
You're impossible to find

Work @ Simmons dining hall

Hi all,

USD7.75 per hour for doing a simple or in a rude word 'a low-class job' is really cool!
As compared to Malaysia, we will be paid for only RM3 - RM5 for doing this kind of job. That's pathetic! There are couple reasons why I decided to work.

First - MONEY!!! I'm craving for dollars to do shopping, traveling, and other cool stuff! Well, I'm not hot enough to be a money boy. LOL, just kidding.

Second - SSN (Social security number). Working is an easy way to obtain an SSN.

Third - FRIENDS. This is a great way to get myself out from the crowd (Malaysians) and mingle with Americans and other international students. But, Malaysians remain on top of my heart.

Fourth - EXPERIENCE. This is a great opportunity to gain more and more working experience. Start from below and then succeed when we are on top!

and more reasons...

Although working part time is a bit tiring, I believe that every single calory I burn is worth thousands benefits in turn. Till then, have a great day!

Raya di Penn State

Salam and hi everyone,
This morning, muslims at Penn State were celebrating eid mubarak. It was a simple yet memorable celebration. We started to pray at 8.05am at the Spiritual Center in campus. During the khutbah, i was thinking about Malaysian foods, rendang, ketupat, nasi himpit with sambal kacang and kuah lodeh-the must have foods.

Then we had our breakfast which was prepared by pak Arabs and to be honest, I don't like their foods. Well, I have a malay tongue which will only love malay foods. But I enjoyed eating the foods. After filling up my hungry stomach, I snapped pictures to keep all these memories still in the frames.

After classes, my friends and I 'cam whored' around campus and we captured some beautiful shots. You may see those pictures in my facebook or friendster and don't forget to leave comments! W-O-W

Native speaker vs Non native speaker

me, akmal and isa with a korean and a japanese

Enough with Raya. Now, lets get started with something serious, erm, I guess you will stop reading when you see the word 'serious'. But if you are still reading, wow, I am surprised and honored. Well, it's not a serious issue but something that has to be considered by those who speak more than a language, especially when you speak or learn English as a second language.

The terms native speaker and non native speaker are defined differently by many scholars. However, I personally define native speaker as someone who speaks the language since childhood while non native is a person who learns a language other than his mother tongue for some purposes such as business or education. Some conflicts occur regarding the term as well as the various definitions. Here are some:

1. People believe that the term non native is unfortunate as it is a negative term for native. People assume that native is positive and the prefix non- means negative. (Matsuda, 2003)

2. Most people believe that native speaker should be able to speak the language better than non native speaker.

3. People also believe that native speakers are better teachers of the language than non native speakers regardless their educational background.

4. How about bilingual children? Are they called as native speakers for two languages? That sounds weird right?

and the list goes on...

Now,let me share my experience as being non native English speaker in an English speaking country. Personally, I feel more confident to speak in English with other international students like Chinese, Japanese, Arabs etc than speak with Americans. In fact, I feel uneasy speaking with Americans; I think it is due to the term standard English.

When we are talking with other non native English speakers, we have the notion that we are similar. However, communicating with native speakers requires us to achieve the 'imaginary' standard of English. We always believe that native speakers' language is better than ours. Thus, we have to put a lot of effort to keep this inferiority away. I am working on it now.

The other thing is, non native speakers should be compared with non native speakers instead of native speakers. Hence, non native speaker should not set a goal to be a native speaker - do not imitate!. Be yourself! Remember, there are many accents in English. Watch this video:

Selamat Hari Raya
